It was another 30 minute uphill walk until our 11:25am guided tour. This castle was built in the 19th century from 1869-1884. King Ludwig II only stayed in this castle 172 days before he died in a suspicious manner drowning in a lake only 3 feet deep.
After the Castle tour we had a light picnic lunch at the base of Lake Alpse. Finally food that wasn't heavy, plus we got a comped beer on the tour! We headed over to Schwangau Tegelberg which was a luge at the base of the mountains. What a cool experience and Brian and Dad got some sweet scuff marks on their elbows they were going so fast. I got some cool videos to show off. A quick bus ride back to the hotel, I went on a 4 mile run to kill some time and burn off a few calories. Dinner in a few hours but now it's time to kick back on our balcony and enjoy the view.
We found a local grocery store Eurospar that had .99 Euro half liters of Hefeweizen and 1.99 Euro bottles of wine. It was good enough so we went back for 2 more bottles of wine and 2 more beers! You know the Gresl's can't pass up a good bargain on alcohol. Dinner was cheese and spinach ravioli, spinach, salad bar, spoetzel balls, and some cheese and apple strudel for desert.
Not a bad view to sip on a mocha frappe in the morning
Crossing from Austria to Germany on the morning hike
Quick pit stop at Lake Alpse on the hike. If it were 10 degrees warmer Andy (Rick Steve's son and our tour guide) and I were ready to go for a dip
Neuschwanstei Castle
Riding up the luge into the mountains. On the left is the winding track down
Killing time playing Nintendo Switch on the balcony
