Editor note: Since this was a Rick Steve's tour, all of our travel between country was on a charter bus which took a lot of logistical planning and stress out of the vacation. I can't recommend Rick Steve's tours enough, but more on that later.
The open air museum was great, very similar to Old World Wisconsin. Saw farmhouses, crops, fields, animals, flowers, gardens, cheese making, and a brewery where we got a 1oz sample. I pulled myself across a pond in a boat which was fun and made for a cool video. Lunch was a Dutch Pancake meal consisting of cheese, bacon, and apple cinnamon raisin pancakes served family style. Very good and different from American pancakes you didn't even need syrup. After lunch we are back on the road to Bacharach. One interesting thing is in Europe the bus driver is required to take a 30 minute break every 2 hours which will make the trips easy for everyone. Crossed into Germany around 2:45pm, now driving on the Autobahn Highway. Around 3:15pm we rode past a huge coal mine and saw some draglines and shovels. Cool to see something P&H and Joy Global (a former employer of mine) made in the actual mine!
Got to Bacarach around 5:30pm. Checked in and got settled and enjoyed a complementary glass of white wine from Hotel Kranenturm. Our hotel overlooks the Rhine River and mountains. Beautiful. Went for a short walk in the town before dinner. Dinner was at a local place, I had the fish and potatoes and a bier. After dinner we went to Kleines Brauhaus for a few Liter stines of the Helles, Dopplebock, Hefeweizen, and a half liter of the Kolsh. Got to the hotel around 10:30pm and relaxed the rest of the night.
