DAY 6: 9/7/18 DACHAU AND AUSTRIA

Breakfast was a HUGE spread of bread, cheese, nuts, sausage, ham, salami, fruit, vegetables, coffee, desserts, juice, milk, wine, tea, I could go on and on. Today will be a humbling day at the concentration camp in Dachau. We are about 2 and a half hours away by bus (96 miles).

Spent about an hour and a half at Dachau. What a moving experience. Our private guide walked us through the history, time the camp was operational, buildings both reconstructed and original. The scale of the camp and number of barracks was much larger than I anticipated. Hard to believe over 30,000 people were worked to death at this camp. This was only one of 15,000 concentration camps throughout Europe. I wish we could have spent more time here but I can review more information at home after the trip. Back on the road to our next stop, a monastery brewery (Andechs).

Late lunch at Kloster Andechs Monastery Brewery. We ate pork belly, pork shoulder, coleslaw, potato salad, and a big pretzel. The bees were annoying but the lunch and view were well worth it. We got absolutely dumped on with rain on the walk back to the bus.

A stop along the route at one of the most beautiful churches in all of Germany, Wieskirche. Words cannot describe how breathtaking the inside was. Just a quick stop on the road and now we are driving thru the beautiful alps of Austria.

We arrived at our hotel and Brian and I are in Room 210 with a sweeping view of the mountains. We are staying at Alpenhotel Ernberge in Reutte, Austria.

Salmon with spinach and potatoes with a huge salad bar and a nice crepe with ice cream for desert. They just keep feeding us and I need to stop eating such big portions. We had an hour long polka show by Frank and Gary which was a lot of fun. It was Sue's birthday so they had her participate in the show which was very fun. Overall a great day, saw some beautiful countryside, nice breakfast, lunch and dinner plus live music to cap off the night. Time for an early bedtime so I am not tired tomorrow.
